Power Plants
In North Carolina and South Carolina, our regulated facilities serve approximately 2.3 million customers with a generating capability of approximately 19,900 megawatts. In Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky, our regulated facilities serve approximately 1.6 million customers with a generating capability of approximately 8,100 megawatts. The company has a diverse mix of generation resources, including nuclear, coal-fired, oil- and natural gas-fired, and hydroelectric power plants.
In North America, Duke Energy generates and sells wholesale electricity to utilities, cooperatives, municipalities and other large energy users to support electric reliability—especially during times of high demand. The fleet has a generating capability of approximately 8,700 megawatts and features some of the most technologically advanced natural gas-fired facilities.
In Latin America, Duke Energy’s primary assets include over 4,000 net megawatts of hydroelectric and thermal generating capacity.

- Duke Energy’s franchised electric utilities produce more than 28,000 megawatts of capacity to serve approximately 3.9 million customers in the Carolinas, Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky.
- Carolinas Power Delivery
- More than 2 million customers in the Carolinas depend on Duke Energy for reliable and economically priced electricity. This essential task is accomplished through a well-designed generation and power delivery system.
- Wholesale Power Generation
- Duke Energy has approximately 8,100 megawatts of wholesale generation in the United States, primarily in the Midwest.
